Mohammed Siraj loses cool, points finger at Bangladesh captain in heated battle moments before visitors' batting collaps

Before the visitors’ batting collapses, Mohammed Siraj loses his composure and lashes out at the skipper of Bangladesh during a tense exchange.

On the fourth day of the first Test match against India, Mohammed Siraj and Najmul Hossain Shanto got into a heated argument.

During the first Test match between India and Bangladesh in Chennai on the fourth day, Mohammed Siraj’s aggressiveness was evident. Siraj, who is well-known for his aggressive style with the ball and in speech, appeared clearly upset when Bangladeshi captain Najmul Hossain Shanto pulled him for a four down the leg side.

Shanto stayed calm and declined to speak with Siraj, even though he was trying to shake him. Siraj was unfazed by this and proceeded to scold Shanto once another delivery was completed.

Shanto was one of the few Bangladeshi batsmen who performed admirably in the second innings, despite the fact that the team lost the first Test by a massive 280 runs. In the first innings, Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets; remarkably, he also removed Shanto at that point, bringing his score down to 20. In addition, he got the last wicket of Bangladesh’s innings by hitting Nahid Rana for 11. On the other hand, Siraj failed to claim any wickets in the second half.

Bangladesh chose to bowl in the first Test and had a strong start, but they were unable to build on that advantage. Bangladesh faltered when the Indian team was reduced to 144/6 when Ravichandran Ashwin struck a century and Ravindra Jadeja (86) also played well, as India amassed a commanding 376.

Bangladesh, then, was unable to withstand the onslaught of Indian pacers, led by right-arm bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed four wickets and immediately put the opposition on the back foot.

The lone warrior, Shanto

In the second innings, Shanto was Bangladesh’s lone fighter. His termination served as the last straw for Bangladesh because he was unable to attain the three-figure threshold. The Bangladeshi captain was removed by Ravindra Jadeja after 82 deliveries in 127 balls.

The captain stated that even though they still had a mountain to climb in the game, they wanted to extend the battle during the post-match presentation.

“Just tried to bat as long as we can, we were not thinking about outcome,” he stated.

“Just make an effort to play to our strengths and follow our method. We make an effort to do that.
