The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has engaged langurs and their handlers to put an end to the monkeys’ threat of stealing food at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, where India and Bangladesh will play their second Test match. These are the country’s two best all-round players.

The broadcast camera operators in the stands are most vulnerable to monkeys taking their drinks and snacks, according to venue director Sanjay Kapoor. “We have langurs (long-tailed leaf monkeys) to take care of them so they don’t have to fear monkeys,” Kapoor stated.

Langurs’ services have also previously been employed for international cricket matches held in Kanpur.Their statistics indicate that Ashwin and Jadeja have surpassed Kumble and Harbhajan when playing at home, demonstrating their excellence.

In order to prevent monkeys from gaining access to food, black cloth was placed at the back and sides of the elevated stand, which is just outside the boundary line and is used by the television team to set up the camera at the stadium and film the game.

Closed to onlookers
On Friday, the first day of the Test match, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) declared the C Stand of the Green Park Stadium unsafe for spectators.

“PWD and Harcourt Butler Technical University also conducted their inspection three days before the match and found that some seats in C block cannot be used for spectators as it is not safe,” Kapoor informed the reporters on the eve of the Test match. There are still perhaps 1750 seats in the top block accessible for spectators, according to Kapoor.
