After it was determined that the Delhi Capitals had maintained a slow over rate for the second consecutive IPL 2024 season, BCCI fined skipper Rishabh Pant and the entire team. In Match 16 of the 17th IPL season, they committed their second over rate infraction, which is a violation of the IPL Code of Conduct, in Vizag against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3,” stated the BCCI in a press release.
While the other DC XI players, including Impact Player Abishek Porel, were fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was smaller, Pant was hit with a fine of ₹24 lakh.
“Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs because it was his team’s second breach of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct pertaining to minimum over rate offences. Each of the other players in the playing XI, including the impact player, received a fine of INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever was smaller.
In their most recent game at the same location against the Chennai Super Kings, DC had a slow over rate, and Pant was fined ₹12 lakh for it. There were penalties for each DC player individually.
As KKR achieved an impressive 272/7, five runs shy of the best total in the tournament’s history, teenager Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54 off 27) wowed with a polished fifty. Sunil Narine displayed his batting prowess with a scorching 85.
Whether using the bat or the ball, the Capitals never gave the impression that they were in the game. The weight of the enormous amount caused them to collapse.
Captain Rishabh Pant (55) made his second consecutive fifty, while Tristan Stubbs (54) also reached fifty, but it was not enough as DC lost their third game of the season, folding for 166 in 17.2 overs.
DC have now lost three of their previous four games. With one of the lowest net run rates, they are currently ranked ninth in the IPL 2024 points standings.
“Our bowlers had no direction. Simply put, we failed to show up that day. Pant remarked, “Today was one of those days,” following the game at the presentation ceremony.
“Our goal as a batting group was to simply keep playing hard together. “As a team, I would prefer to go all out than not aim for the goal,” he continued.
