Local elections in Gujarat has taken a interesting turn as Social Democratic party of India (SDPI)- announced to contest five minority dominated wards in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. On the other hand AIMIM led by Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has already entered in electoral battle of Gujarat for local elections.
Addressing a press conference, SDPI’s national general secretary Dr. Taslim Rehmani announced that his party will contest on Dariyapur, Viratnagar, Jamalpur, Behrampura, and Maktampura.
With six municipal corporations, 55 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats going to polls in the third of February.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and
the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP),the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Bahujan Mukti Party (BMP) have flexed their muscles to get foothold in this sharply divided battle at husting.
The upcoming elections to the 323 local self-government institutions in Gujarat promise to be a cliff-hanger with several big and small parties throwing their hats into the ring for the first time in the provincial polls in the bipolar state dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress for decades.
SDPI, political outfit of the Popular Front of India, which had set up a base in Gujarat in 2018 has been working at grass root level in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad. In Covid pendemic, it has done great humanitarian work in various areas of city.
The usual bipolar contest in Gujarat between the ruling BJP and opposition Congress seems to be heading for a multi-party electoral battle at least in the coming local body polls now. It remains to be seen now voters cast their votes specially Muslims.
