Anushka Juyal has persevered through difficulties to advance steadily but slowly on the badminton court. Six months ago, she suffered an ankle injury that set her back, and it was difficult to balance her time between the sport and getting ready for her Class 12 Board exams. She has trained at three separate academies in three different places in an effort to hone her craft. The injury has since healed. The 17-year-old defeated Shravya Akula of Telangana 15-0, 15-5 on Saturday in the Yonex Sunrise 31st Smt Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Junior Ranking Prize Money Tournament’s girls’ Under-19 second round (qualifying). The match was held at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex.

Anushka, a Chandigarh student at SD College, talked about her long-term goals as well as the hurdles she had faced recently after winning.

It has been a wild road for me, whether it was because of my 12th board exam this year or the ankle ailment I had before that. In an attempt to fulfil my badminton dreams, I have moved to three different locations to practice at academies. Fortunately for me, my father, a former national player, gave me permission to practice at the academy of my choice. Anushka declared, “I am winning, and that makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
