Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will not fly to Rajkot, the site of the third game, but will instead join the team in Guwahati, where India will begin their ODI world cup campaign.

Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur will not participate in the last ODI against Australia in Rajkot because the team management has opted to rest them. The two will not go to Rajkot, the site of the third game, but will instead join the group in Guwahati as India’s ODI world cup campaign gets underway.

In the second ODI against Australia in Indore, Gill notched a century, his sixth overall and fifth of the year. Gill has two hundreds against New Zealand, one against each of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Australia this year, and two hundreds overall. This year, he had a T20I century as well. Shubman Gill has scored 1230 runs in 20 innings at an average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03 to lead all players in ODI scoring in 2023.

He played in his first ODI as an India cricketer against Australia at his home field in Mohali. “We first visited Mohali when I was 7 years old. It was a dream come true for me to play an international match in Mohali because I had seen so many games here as a spectator. I had participated in a few IPL games, but Gill had remarked that “playing an international game with my family in attendance was special.”

For quite some time, the team management has been preparing the workload management. It was the reason Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested for the first two One-Day Internationals. In Rajkot, both senior players will join the group.

Due to rest, Jasprit Bumrah did not play in the second ODI. The team management granted him a little holiday and a trip to see his family, the BCCI had tweeted. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been added to the team in place of Bumrah for the second ODI. The team for the last One-Day International in Rajkot will include Bumrah.

The Indian team’s World Cup campaign will be lengthy because they will play in nine different cities. In order to keep their players fresh before the major ICC competition, the team management has been looking for new strategies.
