The university has consistently ranked in the top 30 to 40 percent of all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the nation.

In the QS world rankings, the institute was not listed. The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings do, however, list it. This year, it dropped from the 351-400 band to the 501-600 band in terms of rating.
It is an IIT of the second generation and was founded in 2009. The school offers BTech degrees in chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and metallurgical and materials engineering, as well as MTech degrees in biomedical engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, as well as MSc degrees in physics, chemistry, and mathematics and MS(R) degrees in computer science and engineering and electrical sciences. Along with PhD programmes, the institute also provides humanities and social science courses.
