Only vote politics in the country, In the era when other countries are making a quantum leap in AI(Artificial Intelligence)technology, India seems to be regressing

The Congress government in Rajasthan Is planning on establishing a Vedic education and Sanskar board, so that they don’t fall behind in appeasing Hindus, merely for votes!

It’s an issue when you don’t see the same enthusiasm in investing and contributing to technologies that matters to the world, that would aide a country to command leadership at a global level. In the era when other countries are making a quantum leap in AI(Artificial Intelligence)technology, India seems to be regressing.

AI(Artificial Intelligence) the holy grail. AI propels futuristic technologies like quantum computing, data sciences, semiconductors, nanotechnology, medical technology, brain-machine interface, robotics, internet of things, deep learning, big data analytics, predictive analytics and 5G. These are the ones that would define winners and losers, strong and vulnerable, future forward and obsolete. As the world is evolving, newer complexities and chaos emerge, these technologies are the ones that would solve problems and challenges of the newer kind.

China is leaps ahead in AI, already is a world leader in AI. Their innovation and patent output has been staggering. Even school kids are designing robots to help them in mundane activities like finishing homework.

Just 20 years ago, there was a huge gulf between China and the United States on AI research. While the U.S. was witnessing sustained growth in research efforts by both public institutions and private sectors, China was still conducting low-value-added activities in global manufacturing. But in the intervening years, China has surged to rapidly catch up. From a research perspective, China has become a world leader in AI publications and patents. It’s a leader in AI-empowered businesses, such as speech and image recognition applications.

On the contrary, India has a disappointing level of AI development. Not just development, mere adoption of AI has been abysmal. AI-driven revolution will have an unequal impact on different segments of humanity and for a country like India, where a large percentage of the population lacks the education that is vital to survive a technological deluge, the adverse effects could well be shattering.

Lack of investment, skill gap and government policies have been the primary reasons in India. Innovation in AI has been happening at a neck-breaking speed everywhere else. Almost every industry and sector has adopted this technology, albeit in varying degrees. AI is also said to have a considerable impact on a country’s economy. As per a recent Accenture report, AI can contribute nearly $957 billion (15% of current GDP) to the Indian economy by 2035. The Indian artificial intelligence market is valued at $6.4 billion (as of August 2020).

I keep comparing China with India because that’s what we love to do. We love to berate China at every given opportunity, but the joke is on us.
