Sharing the stage with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for the first time on Wednesday, Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president CR Patil hinted that Rupani could continue as the state’s chief minister. The duo had been campaigning for Kiritsinh Rana in Limbdi when Patil also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘bhua’ (sorcerer). Both told the press that they were confident of winning the upcoming bypolls.
Addressing the public meeting in Surendranagar, CR Patil said, “The trio of CM Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and I will continue to work as a team.” He then appealed to the people to vote for the BJP candidate and said that once elected to the state Assembly, he would bring development for the people of the constituency.
Patil further stated, “Narendra Modi is ‘bhua’ (sorcerer) for us. As the bhua throws coconuts, Modi launches development programmes and schemes. We collect all these coconuts and bring them to the state for you. Because of him, Gujarat has benefited a lot and development of the state has continued.” Patil then compared Congress with the Titanic and said, “When the Titanic was built, it was said to be an unsinkable ship. Yet, it sank on its maiden voyage. Now, Congress is sinking like the Titanic
Addressing the gathering, Rupani said, “Decades ago, Pandit Nehru declared ‘Aaram Haram Hai’ but successive Congress governments did nothing to boost employment. As a result, unemployment increased in the state.” He also attacked the Congress over party loyalty, saying, “Congress now calls former MLAs traitors, but the same Congress had supported Shankarsinh Vaghela when he led a rebellion in the BJP.
They don’t have any right to talk about morality.” He then reminded the people that “The BJP is always concerned about the poor, farmers and the middle class, and work for their upliftment at the Centre and the state level. But the Congress only believes in making promises during election time, which it never fulfils.”
