An old adage says: “where there is a will there is a way”.  A self help group of gritty women in Mittapallay village of Siddipet District, Telangana State, who are running successfully a Dal Processing Factory since last month, shown the women across rural India how they can form their own self help groups to create employment and alleviate poverty.
During the Corona Pandemic Lockdown, when people lost their jobs and faced huge economic difficulties, a group of enterprising rural women from the village of Mittapally, in Siddipet District of TS decided to do something to create job opportunities for themselves in order to sustain their and their families’ life post Lockdown.
These women, taking inspiration from an earlier Women’s successful initiative in their District “Meat on Wheel”, formed their group of 18 women  pooling Rs.10,000/- each and succeeding in getting a loan of Rs.10 Lakhs from the State Bank of India to establish a Dal processing Factory in their village last month.
These women’s meticulous planning, diligence and seriousness impressed Telangana’s Finance Minister T. Harish Rao who allotted a stall to these creative women to sell their brand of pulses at Ruthu Bazar (A Telangana Govt’s initiative to help farmers sell their produce) in Siddipet District,  about 100 kms from the State’s capital Hyderabad.
The women are selling their superior quality Masoor Dal with attractive packing at Rs.500/- per six (6) kgs while an average quality of lose Masoor Dal is being sold at Rs.90/- per kg. in the market.  Their brand “Mettapally Dal” is fast becoming popular among the local consumers.
These enterprising women took a crash training program conducted by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) in TS for the smooth running of their factory and marketing their products.
The success of this Dal factory has become a source of inspiration for the rural women across Telangana State for it’s smooth functioning in processing good quality pulses, packing, marketing and sale with a competitive price.
This initiative of TS women will surely serve as a model for the rural women across India to launch their own initiatives to convert “Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi into Reality.
