It’s never about some shaky glimmer of optimism when dealing with Lakshya Sen. He makes the entire globe appear beatable when he gets going in a high-stakes match on a large platform with his powerful, quick game building up massive leads. A grandfatherly Bruce Banner coach transforms into a Paris-rattling Hulk as he lands with a thump.

Given how Sen placed Viktor Axelsen under pressure to begin the semifinals, national coach P Gopichand believed Sen was capable of winning gold.

Sen would have reached the finals of the Paris Games if he hadn’t backed the Indian against Thai Kunlavut Vitidsarn thanks to his incredibly astute interpretation of the game.

Sen’s own coach, Prakash Padukone, was quite critical of the shuttler after he gave up on a bronze medal opportunity a day later. The two astute men thought Sen had a great chance of accomplishing the extraordinary and thought he was capable of it.

With the responsibility of sitting on the chair comes recurrent remorse and alternate situations that they imagine.
