Chris Gayle, a former opener for the West Indies, thinks that the great MS Dhoni might not play in every IPL 2024 game. The Universe Boss stated that Dhoni would probably take a break during the competition, which is precisely why he gave Ruturaj Gaikwad the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings prior to the start of the season.
“MS Dhoni might not participate in every game. He might take a brief break in between. For that reason, the choice. But don’t worry, MSD will go smoothly,” Gayle stated on Jio Cinema. Gayle made her remarks prior to the CSK vs. RCB IPL 2024 opening game in Chennai.
Since 2020, Dhoni has only participated in IPL games. Many people had speculated that the five-time IPL champion captain would retire last season, but he persevered through a knee injury to play the whole season and, at the end, vowed to return this year for the fans.
Well, Dhoni has done that, but not in the role of captain. He has delegated to Gaikwad the task of leading the team into the future. However, any questions regarding Dhoni’s fitness were dispelled on Friday. Dhoni swept behind the stumps with great speed. When he ran out Anuj Rawat in the final ball of the RCB innings, his long locks made for the ideal backdrop. He made very few mistakes.
Nevertheless, he has chosen to drop him to No. 7 or 8 in the batting order, so it is possible that he will play the whole season.
CSK maintains outstanding record versus RCB
With his arsenal of clever strokes, Mustafizur Rahman set the stage for CSK’s easy six-wicket victory. Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube then completed the job with outstanding finishing abilities.
With no home losses to RCB since 2008, CSK maintained their impressive record.
A good batting track saw RCB restricted to 173 for six, mostly thanks to Mustafizur’s best-ever IPL figures of 4/29 in four overs. The visitors’ only hope came from a 95-run sixth wicket stand off 50 balls between Anuj Rawat (48 off 25 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (38 not out off 26 balls).
When things might have gotten complicated in the run chase, Jadeja (25 not out off 17 balls) used his vast experience to propel a rusty Dube (34 off 28 balls) into a few quick doubles, completing the chase in 18.4 overs. By the end, Dube became even more confident in Jadeja’s company as he quickly completed the chase.
