2024 T20 World Cup record prize announced by ICC: The record-breaking prize money for the present T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies has been disclosed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The world cricket governing body said in a statement on Monday that the victorious team will collect $2.45 million (20.3 Cr INR) from the $11.25 million (93.5 Cr INR) total prize pool for the major tournament.
This represents an almost $850,000 increase from the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, where England took home the $1.6 million prize. With the 20-team competition this year, the total prize money has more than doubled from $5.6 million in 2022 to $11.25 million.
According to the ICC’s press release, the losing semi-finalists will receive $787,500 apiece, while the runners-up will receive at least $1.28 million.
In addition, the teams that advance past the second round will receive $382,500 apiece, the teams that place ninth through twelfth will receive $247,500 apiece, and the teams that place thirteenth through twentieth will receive $225,000 apiece.
“Given the historical nature of this event, it makes sense that player prize money would reflect that.” The players will delight hundreds of millions of fans worldwide in what we hope will be a “Out of This World” event, according to ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.
This T20 World Cup is the first to feature 20 teams, evenly split into four groups. After that, the top two teams from each group move on to the Super-8 and are divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group will next play each other in the semifinals, which will determine the winners.
This edition will feature 40 games spread over nine locations in the USA and the West Indies.
