Over 25 lakh people have registered for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam (NEET-UG) for 2024, a significant rise of 4.2 lakh over the previous year. Many students registered for the medical entrance exam, which was set for May 5, even after the registration deadline on Saturday passed.

Many students had trouble registering because of problems with Aadhaar card verification and cellphone OTPs, according to Parijat Mishra, a career counselling specialist at Allen Career Institute, who spoke with TOI. Several students were unable to submit their applications within the allotted period, therefore they demanded an extension.

These applications are vying for over 2 lakh seats, comprising 1.09 lakh MBBS, 26,000 dental, and other medical specialties like Unani, Homoeopathy, Veterinary, Ayurveda, and nursing.
