An Indian designated university devoted to the teaching of nuclear science and technology is called Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). On February 3, 2005, the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) founded it. Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, regarded as the founder of the Indian nuclear programme, is honoured by the institute’s name.

At its constituent units, which include esteemed establishments like the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), and other national laboratories and research centres under the Department of Atomic Energy, HBNI acts as an umbrella organisation for coordinating and supporting educational programmes and research activities.

Postgraduate and doctorate programmes in a variety of subjects, including medical physics, engineering, technology, radiography, and nuclear science, are available at the institute. The goal of these programmes is to foster excellence in research and teaching while meeting the changing needs of the nuclear energy industry in India and advancing science worldwide.

In order to stimulate scientific curiosity and advance STEM education, the institute also places a high priority on outreach and knowledge dissemination initiatives. To this end, it hosts workshops, seminars, public talks, and educational programmes. In addition, HBNI actively supports international exchange and collaboration initiatives to improve research capacities and support the international scientific community.
