On a busy day in Life Care Hospital on 5th June 2020, a young pregnant woman, wife of a Bihari migrant worker in Kerala was brought in with complaints of acute pain in her lower abdomen after being denied treatment in two hospitals.

Dr. Ayshabi who runs Life Care Hospital took her in and diagnosed her pregnancy as ectopic a condition where the fetus grown outside the uterus attached to the fallopian tube causing the tube to rupture resulting in heavy bleeding leading to death of the woman. Muskan had to be operated upon immediately failing as it posed a grave threat to her life.

When the complication was explained to her husband Mohammed Vicky, he asked the cost of the operation. Kind hearted Dr. Ayshabi who knew that he was a jobless migrant worker who has been out of job from the last 3 months told him the cost incurring as Rs. 20,000/- whereas the actual amount is Rs.50,000/- for such a complicated case where chances of survival of a patient are dim.

Dr. Ayesha bi,

She also gave him other options where he could get his wife treated such as the Calicut medical college, the tertiary care hospital which treats the highest number of high risk cases all over Asia having a dedicated team in all the departments.

But Vicky decided to continue his wife’s treatment at Life Care hospital. So when preparations were on as 3 units of blood of AB positive was required.

Mohammed Vicky was not to be seen when the staff went to take his signature on the consent form. And the lady attendant named Aswini their neighbor, a resident of Mallapuram, who had come with them, informed that he went to make arrangements for the money.

But the doctor asked Aswini to call Mohammed Vicky back as operating the patient was more important and had to be done immediately or else Muskan would not live.

The neighbours, Usha and Aswini arranged for 3 blood donors and after an hour the surgery was complete and successful; placing the young woman in a stable condition.

The couple’s first born; a 6 year old girl was in their neighour Usha’s house with her family while Usha and Aswini were here at the hospital looking after Muskian in the hospital, getting food and taking care of her other needs.

Says Dr. Aysha Bi, heading the Life Care Hospital, “The communal BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, described Mallapuram, as the most violent district in the country in the wake of the incident of an elephant dying in Palakkad. Her blatant comments completely disaccord with the essence of Mallapuram which is a place filled with communal harmony, brotherhood and love. And this is just one such incident of compassion and communal harmony.”

“Usha and Aswini were in tears when the Muskan was out of danger. Such is their compassion. They are natives of kerala while Mohammed Vicky and his wife Muskan are from Bihar. This is an example of communal harmony that exists in our state” Dr. Aysha bi further added.

“Yet again the BJP and the sanghis have tried to run a fake propaganda of communal discord against Mallapuram because they hate this place as it embodies the idea of India and they can never succeed as long as we have people like these who care for each other irrespective of their religion” she stated narrating the whole incident.
