After an outstanding season in the 2023 Indian Premier League, in which he scored 625 runs in 14 games, Jaiswal made his debut for the Indian team. In 2023, Jaiswal’s strike rate was 163.61, compared to 132.99 and 148.21 in the two seasons prior in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
In 13 Twenty20 Internationals since making his India debut, Jaiswal has amassed 370 runs at an average of 33.63 and a strike rate of 163.71. He has astonishingly amassed a century and two half-centuries for India in Twenty20 Internationals.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar praised Jaiswal’s talent and said that he possesses the audacity of youth. Jaiswal’s career in India is off to a terrific start, and he will be trying to earn a spot in the team for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies next year.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal possesses exceptional talent and adds a unique left-handed element. He exudes a youthful boldness and a sense of freshness that is unencumbered by preconceived notions about the game,” said Gavaskar.
He continued by referring to Jaiswal as an all-format prospect and stating that his main focus is on hitting and watching the ball. In his two Test matches for India, Jaiswal amassed 266 runs at an average of 88.66, with two centuries and a half.
“All he has to do is look at the ball and hit it; he does this extremely well. He has also scored a century in Test cricket. Thus, Gavaskar continued, “he is a good all-format prospect for India.”
On Tuesday, December 12, at St George’s Oval in Port Elizabeth, India will prepare to play the Proteas in the second T20I series match after the washout in Durban.
