At the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Friday, during the first Test matchup between Australia and New Zealand, Kane Williamson of New Zealand was bizarrely run out. When the Kiwi talisman entered the middle, the score was 12-1. A few balls later, he walked back without bothering the scorers, which is when the mishap occurred.
In an attempt to grab a single, the third player for New Zealand pushed the ball straight to Marnus Labuschange at mid-off. While Williamson was watching the ball, non-striker Will Young collided with him as he ran from the same side of the pitch.
Following his delivery of the ball, bowler Mitchell Starc turned to check its location. Williamson also faced a challenge as a result, having to go around two players to reach the other end. However, Labuschange successfully received the throw in and struck the stumps straight.
Cameron Green’s genius comes through for Australia.
Australia were a bit of a pickle when they asked to bat first on the opening day. Still, Green, in his new position at number four, struck his international Test-high 174 to lead the visitors to a respectable 383 in the opening over.
“It feels rather nice. After reaching his hundred, Green kissed the crest on his helmet and remarked, “It was a pretty tough wicket out there.”
“The boys performed pretty well, in my opinion.”
“It felt good to kind of stand out and maybe record a somewhat competitive total.”
Matt Henry claimed five wickets for New Zealand, and Scott Kuggeleijn claimed two as the fourth seamer. The selectors chose to go with more pace instead of Mitch Santner, who bowls slowly.
In response, New Zealand has had a terrible start, having lost half of their team for just 29 runs, and they have a significant deficit to overcome.
