Deep Dasgupta supports the T20I selection, Rohit Sharma adds intent, and Virat Kohli’s experience on West Indian grounds. After more than a year away, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rejoined the Indian T20I team.

Since India’s 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal loss to England, the senior India team has not participated in T20 Internationals.

In a three-match series against Afghanistan, which will be India’s last international Twenty20 encounter before the Twenty20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place in June of this year, the pair will be back in the starting lineup.Deep Dasgupta supports the T20I selection, Rohit Sharma adds intent, and Virat Kohli's experience on West Indian grounds.

The pair is anticipated to compete in the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the American states and Caribbean islands. Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta expressed his amazement at the pair’s selection.

Dasgupta expressed his belief that India had gone past its senior batting lineup following their consecutive eliminations in the tournament’s 2021 and 2022 editions.

“I believed that in the T20I format, the team had advanced. It has startled me a little. However, Rohit Sharma’s performance in the 50-over World Cup was excellent.

Dasgupta said in an interview with Star Sports that the primary criticism leveled at the senior Indian players was their lack of desire in the T20 format.

The former cricketer from India countered that Virat Kohli’s experience will be necessary because the West Indies pitches have been slow recently and have provided a lot of spin.

“It is evident that we need to consider the surfaces we may see in the West Indies given the performances of Virat and Rohit. Are we anticipating 180–200 pitches, or around 160s?” Dasgupta said.

Since November 2022, Hardik Pandya has led the Indian team in the international competition’s shortest format. In his place, Suryakumar Yadav was named captain for the series against South Africa and Australia, and he performed admirably in both matches.

Prior to the T20 World Cup in 2024, India will need to reorganize their lineup due to the comeback of Rohit and Kohli.
