Premier League: Tottenham’s 10-man squad holds Manchester City to a 3-3 draw Brighton is defeated by Chelsea. After a goal-filled Sunday, champions Manchester City drew their third straight Premier League match, falling to third place in the standings, three points behind leaders Arsenal, as they were held 3–3 at home by an injured Tottenham Hotspur team.
There were 24 goals scored in the five games, with Spurs winger Dejan Kulusevski heading home the final goal in the 90th minute at the Etihad Stadium to deny Pep Guardiola’s team the win.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late goals helped Liverpool overcome a 3-2 deficit to win 4-3 at home against Fulham, moving them one point clear of City in second place.
At Stamford Bridge, ten-man Chelsea defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 3-2, while fourth-place Aston Villa survived a late goal from Ollie Watkins to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth.
West Ham United and Crystal Palace drew 1-1 at home.
CITY HAD AN AMAZING DRAW
For the first time in six years, City has now lost three straight league games as their bitter rival Tottenham gave Guardiola’s team trouble once more.
Even though City has won three straight titles, they have only triumphed over Spurs once in their last five encounters.
Replace After Jack Grealish’s goal in the 81st minute appeared to have given City the lead, Kulusevski headed in a cross from Brennan Johnson to reward Ange Postecoglou’s team for taking a chance and move them back up to fifth place, six points behind the leaders.
Son Heung-min of Tottenham had opened the score in the sixth minute on a counterattack, but three minutes later, a cross that ricocheted off him and into the net leveled the score for City.
After halftime, Giovani Lo Celso equalized for City with a brilliant low shot. Phil Foden had given City the lead, and they had twice struck the woodwork in a commanding first half.
Guardiola’s team was incensed in the tense end when Grealish had a chance to score but play was halted due to a foul on Erling Haaland during the build-up.
“It is difficult to look at the picture because the referee has already signaled to play on when he decides to blow the whistle. Guardiola said to Sky Sports, “I do not understand this action after the pass, the whistle.”
LATE LIVERPOOL GOALS
Just as the Liverpool team was about to lose to Fulham at Anfield, they scored two late goals, one minute apart.
Wataru Endo of the hosts scored his first Premier League goal in the 87th minute, and Alexander-Arnold added the insurance goal.
Liverpool took the lead thanks to a free kick by Alexander-Arnold that ricocheted off the bar and in off Fulham keeper Bernd Leno in the 20th minute. However, Harry Wilson equalized four minutes later.
After 38 minutes, a magnificent long-range goal from Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool their lead back, but Kenny Tete gave Fulham a late equalizer in the first half of stoppage time.
BRIGHTON OVERDUE TO CHELSEA
In an entertaining Stamford Bridge match, Chelsea held off Brighton thanks to two goals from Enzo Fernandez, his first Premier League goals, and a goal from Levi Colwill, his first league goal.
In the 17th minute, Fernandez scored with a header, and four minutes later, Colwill—who was on loan at Brighton the previous season—made it two.
At the end of the half, Conor Gallagher was sent off for a second yellow card, and Facundo Buonanotte scored a goal to tie the score.
In the second half, Brighton piled on the pressure on Chelsea, but their substitute James Milner was unable to keep up with Mykhailo Mudryk on the counter and brought him down, which allowed Fernandez to double Chelsea’s lead back to two goals.
Tenth-place Chelsea held on despite a nerve-wracking final few minutes thanks to Joao Pedro’s glancing header.
Watkins’ header in the ninetieth minute of play denied Bournemouth a crucial home victory over Villa.
Villa manager Unai Emery remarked, “This point is not the best but it is not the worst.”
