Why did Temba Bavuma fail to bowl Kagiso Rabada during the semifinal match between Australia and South Africa? The choice to not bowl Kagiso Rabada in the latter stages was puzzling on a night when Temba Bavuma’s captaincy came under intense scrutiny, especially because South Africa was still in the running to defeat Australia and advance to the World Cup final.
However, Bavuma oddly handed the ball to Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, and Gerald Coetzee. Rabada did come on for a second session, although he only bowled one more over after his five-over initial performance.
Despite Josh Inglis returning to the hut and Steve Smith being removed, Bavuma did not call on Rabada to provide a game-changing performance. Everyone is wondering why Rabada didn’t bowl when even Aiden Markram was preferred above Rabada.
Rob Walters, the coach of South Africa, knew the solution. “You might see him hobbling around in the park if you were to observe him. Walters stated, “He just wasn’t able to deliver at 100% during his comeback spell.”
Due to the niggle, Rabada was unable to be called upon by Bavuma to finish his allotted overs while he was still in the field.
Naturally, that also made us decide to bring on Aiden (Markram), who played the entire game brilliantly. Walters remarked, “Obviously, KG is a fit and capable player who has demonstrated throughout this competition that he is one of our top bowlers and has been for South Africa for some time.
Rabada’s injury, according to the South Africa coach, had little bearing on the outcome because their chances of making it to the 50-over World Cup final were still long-shot. South Africa has advanced to the semifinals five times but has not been able to get to the championship game.
What a shame. To be perfectly honest, I don’t believe that was a turning point in the game. It’s unfortunate that we were unable to contact him in the customary manner.
