Former world champion PV Sindhu announced on Tuesday that scans found a niggle in her left knee and that she has been advised to take a few weeks off after a career-rare mid-match withdrawal at the French Open last week.

In her second-round match against Supanida Katethong of Thailand, Sindhu was ahead 21-18 1-1 when she made the decision to withdraw due to a medical break.

Badminton Statistics data indicates that this may be the first occasion in her lengthy career that she has retired during a match.

“We discovered a niggle in my left knee following a knee scan that I had after returning from France. Sindhu shared a statement on her social media platforms, saying, “Looking back, giving up the match was the right decision.

“I should take a few weeks off before starting training again, doctors have advised.” Another chance to concentrate on the approaching Olympics is during the break.

On the day of her injury, Sindhu had declared that she has always been proud of using as little medical breaks or injury timeouts as possible throughout her career. She did, however, decide to respect my body that day and not make it worse.

After making it to the semifinals in Finland and Denmark, the double Olympic medallist had a strong run in Europe. In Rennes, she defeated world No. 7 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung with an amazing victory.

On the strength of that, the superstar Indian temporarily made a comeback to the top 10, but in the most recent rankings, he is now ranked No. 11.

She is currently ranked well in the Olympic qualification cycle at 9th overall, but she is not expected to make it to the World Tour Finals, which concludes the competition.
