According to Gautam Gambhir, Dhoni would have set numerous ODI records if he had batted at No. 3.

Social media users have long believed that Gautam Gambhir has a grudge against MS Dhoni. Every time Gambhir discusses the 2011 World Cup, the same theme keeps coming up: how MS Dhoni has received all the spotlight but players like Yuvraj Singh have gone ignored. The captain is just as good as the team of players, he would also say in the past. The perception has been that he is taking a shot at MS Dhoni despite the fact that he has repeated it numerous times, even during his successful stint as captain of KKR in the IPL.

Now that Dhoni has joined the team, Gambhir has made a statement mentioning him and claiming that it was a “blessing” to have him around.

“MS (Dhoni) was the first Indian wicketkeeper to use his batting to alter the course of a match. Previously, they were wicketkeepers first and batters second, but MS was a batter first and a wicketkeeper second, according to Gambhir on a Star Sports program.

The fact that MS Dhoni is a wicketkeeper-batter who can win games from No. 7 was a blessing for Indian cricket, according to Gambhir.

With 10,773 runs, 10 centuries, and 73 fifty-pluses, MS Dhoni completed his ODI career. But Gambhir believes that if Dhoni had batted at No. 3, he may have scored a lot more.

Gambhir also mentioned how Dhoni was a selfless captain who prioritized the team before himself.

“MS could have set numerous ODI records if he had opened the batting at No. 3, I’m sure of it.”

“People frequently discuss MS Dhoni and his accomplishments as a captain, which is unquestionably true. The captaincy, in my opinion, sacrificed the batter in him, and he might have done much more with his bat than he did. This also occurs when you are the captain because you put the team above yourself and neglect your own needs.

He began his batting debut at No. 6 or 7. He would have been India’s No. 3 if he hadn’t been captain, and I believe he could have scored more runs than he has and more hundreds as well.

“People always see MS with the trophies, but in my opinion, he sacrificed his international runs for the team’s trophies,” remarked Gambhir.
