Recently, when SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav arrived in Lucknow to attend a big gathering of Muslims, the organisers requested him with folded hands that he need not attend such events, because the outright votes of Muslims will go to the SP this time. Instead, he should devote his time to other voters. So now, Akhilesh is convinced that the votes of about 21 percent Muslims and 9-10 percent Yadavs of the state can fall in SP’s quota. Akhilesh has almost convinced his uncle Shivpal to fight with him, and ‘Chhote Chaudhary’ Jayant is also with him. Apart from this, his talks are also going on with Aam Aadmi Party which is asking for 25 seats, but Akhilesh is adamant on five seats. He is also talking to Anupriya Patel’s mother Krishna Patel and sister Pallavi Patel to break the Kurmi votes. Akhilesh is constantly in touch with small parties of UP, as he knows that 1 and 1 together make ‘11.’

Row over Congress party Muslim outreach ahead of Uttar Pradesh election

News coming in from the state of Uttar Pradesh, where ahead of state election the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has made it clear that it will not bat, not support any political party. It will not be appealed in favor of any political party and Muslims are free to vote for whoever they want. Now despite this Congress party spinning its hope Islamic leaders to see it through. In fact, Congress leaders continue to meet Ulema in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and Congress UP minority chief has now claimed that Muslims are not happy with the Samajwadi Party anymore.

The fight for Muslim votes among opposition parties

Traditionally, it is believed that Muslims voters do not vote for Bharatiya Janata Party in UP. It is evident from the fact that in the India Today-Axis survey, 76% of Muslim voters in UP preferred the Samajwadi Party-Bahujan Samaj Party (SP-BSP) alliance during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The preferred party for Muslims is not BJP.s the opposition parties are aware that Muslims hesitate to vote for BJP, they often see them as the game changers in the state. Though the population share stands at only 19%, they can make a difference, especially on the seats where the Muslim population is more compared to other religions. SP, BSP, Congress, and other local parties have been trying to woo the Muslim voters for the upcoming elections, but their plans may not be fruitful as they expected due to the entry of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the state.

Observers believe that Congress’ performance in upcoming assembly polls may be worse in UP. After three visits to the state, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra seems to have realized that it will not be advisable to go it alone in UP elections. She spoke about making a pre-poll alliance in UP, but the question remains as to which party will ally with the Congress. SP and BSP have already denied having any poll pact with Congress. Lok Dal has already joined hands with SP. Some of the smaller parties have gone with the BJP, and some have joined hands with Owaisi. So where is the Congress? UP watchers are of the view that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hardly be able to project herself as CM face in UP. Similarly, poll strategist Prashant Kishor will hardly be effective for the Congress in UP. With all these points in view, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be expecting some solace from Punjab. Vadra’s efforts to get Sidhu appointed as PCC chief in Punjab are being seen as an indication of the fact that she wants to come out of UP. But Rahul Gandhi does not seem to be in favour of relieving her of UP charge.
