Muslims of Telangana State specifically from Hyderabad are peeved with the chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for his policies which on the sly are anti-Muslim.
Ever since he came into power, KCR has been taking decisions that have proved to be anti-Muslim in so many ways.
Robbing the heritage of the city of Nizams
He began with demolishing heritage structures built by the erstwhile Nizam in the name of development. The Victoria zenana hospital built in 1907 has been demolished to make parking space for the advocates of the High Court. The Saifabad palace built in 1888, which was serving as the secretariat has been demolished to build a new secretariat as per vastu. In demolishing the secretariat complex building, 2 mosques have also been raised. One of the mosques was an ancient one.
Along with the Saifabad palace, he also destroyed the stone building in the Mint compound which was nearly 100 years old that served as the electricity department for the city.
Another 200 year old mosque ‘ Ek khana masjid’ in Amberpet was demolished and though assurances were given that another would be built, nothing has happened so far. Another monumental building that is on the radar from 2015, is the Osmania General Hospital built in 1919 in a grand Indo-sarcenic style. There are talks that this hospital that is on a sprawling 25 acres of land will give way to commercial buildings. In his quest to make Hyderabad a global city, the CM is robbing the city of its rich heritage.
The Makkah Masjid, built in the 17th century, which is a state protected heritage monument, with the capacity of ten thousand people, needs repairs and this work is pending from the last few years. The CM however has several crores to spend on temples from the tax payers’ money. The Wakf properties have been encroached and transferred in their names by politicians of all parties.
No High posts for Muslims
Not a single Muslim Vice chancellor has been appointed in the 10 universities of the state. And Muslims have been ousted from the Telangana State public Service commission. The budget allocated for Muslim Minority department has been reduced.
There is just one Muslim MLA in his political outfit. Mehmood Ali who is MLC was earlier made the deputy chief Minister in the first term and now he has been made the Home Minister. Both his designations have been just for namesake with absolutely no powers vested to him. He has to do the bidding of the CM unquestioningly.
Unfulfilled promises
The CM before coming into power had made several tall promises. The 2 prominent ones are reservations for Muslims and promoting the Urdu language.
He has failed in keeping his word. No reservations have been allotted for Muslims. In fact when someone from the audience during his speech asked him about the reservations the CM snapped at him.
Currently the logo of the Osmania University has been changed and people have been protesting demanding to retain the old logo. The old logo had the crown of the Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, the founder of Osmania University. It also had the words ‘Noorun Ala Noor’ meaning knowledge is light printed on the logo. The change in the logo was first made by the government of India after forcefully annexing Hyderabad in India. And now the CM has removed the Urdu inscription and changed it to Telugu. The University had Urdu medium courses which have also been removed. Urdu which is the integral language of Hyderabad has become extinct now by this government who had promised to promote Urdu.
Praising and honouring leaders who have been anti-Muslim
Narsimha Rao, the ex PM who had hurt Muslim sentiments with his anti-Muslim stance and his alleged involved in the demolition of Babri Masjid and his infamous statement that’ it was not the duty of the congress to uplift the Muslims and that if they want to stay in the gutter, let them’. This politician is being honoured today and his daughter Vani Devi contested for MLC elections from TRS party and even won.
And if this is not enough, KCR wants to change the name of the Hyderabad Central University to PV Narasmiha Rao. He is even planning to rename Warrangal district after PV Narsimha Rao or even carve out a new district just to give it the name of the former Prime Minister.
By honouring and praising those politicians who have time and again displayed their anti-Muslim emotions, K Chandrashekar Rao is doing the same thing the BJP has done. Many Muslims feel KCR and his political outfit Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is no different from BJP which has been openly spewing venom against Muslims.
Suppressing voices of dissent
Even in suppressing voices of dissent, KCR is not far. He had got a Government school headmaster suspended for criticizing his policies on a face bookpost. And recently a Telugu journalist who exposed the land scams of the politicians of TRS was arrested. Another female politican from the congress party was arrested for protesting against the Home Minsiter Mehmood Ali for insulting insulted Moulana Jafar Pasha. Though she was released on the same night, her arrest talks volumes of the moves the CM is replicating. Some even feel that Telangana is becoming another UP.
