COVID-19 cases at highest new peak in Mumbai: 6,123 test positive, Surge in Gujarat too

The Gujarat government on announced that a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test report will be mandatory for those arriving from other states

Mumbai on Saturday recorded the highest single-day spike with 6,123 new Covid-19 cases. This is the highest single-day surge in the city since the pandemic outbreak last year.

With this, total count of positive cases went up to 3,91,751. Mumbai city reported 12 COVID-19 deaths, taking the total fatalities to 11,641.

As per BMC reports, there are 41,609 active patients in the city.

Maharashtra on Saturday (March 27) recorded 35,726 new COVID-19 cases. The previous highest single-day surge was 36,912 cases, which was recorded on Friday, March 26.

Besides, 166 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the day, taking the death toll to 54,073. The case fatality rate in the state is 2.02%.

14,523 patients were discharged in the day, taking the tally to 23,00,056. The recovery rate in the state stands at 86.58%.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government on Friday announced the imposition of a night curfew across the state from Sunday (March 28) amid a massive rise in COVID-19 cases. The decision was taken after Thackeray held a meeting with district collectors and divisional commissioners through video conferencing.

In neighbourouring state, Gujarat also sees surge in Corona cases. In last 24 hours, there
are 2276 case. Ahmedabad has 612 cases, while three other big cities – Surat,Baroda and Rajkot have tally of new cases 760, 326 and 172 respectively.

Meanwhile, The Gujarat government on Saturday announced that a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test report will be mandatory for those arriving from other states.

Earlier, the government had made negative test report must only for those coming from neighbouring Maharashtra which has been worst hit by the pandemic.

“The coronavirus infection rate is increasing in many states of the country. It is also seen that prevalence of COVID-19 is high among those who have travel history,” the state health department said in a notification.

In view of this, those entering Gujarat from other states must have undergone RT-PCR test in the previous 72 hours and carry a negative report, it said.

The order will come into force from April 1. In the last few days Gujarat has been witnessing a surge in cases of coronavirus with Ahmedabad and Surat being the worst affected.
