In a historic 2023 victory, the Bangladeshi pacer who sent the India captain packing said, “I was told I’m not ready for Rohit Sharma.”

Last year, Tanzim Sakib made a stunning debut for his country by dismissing Rohit Sharma with his very first delivery of the game.

Last year, Tanzim Sakib, a youthful bowler from Bangladesh, made history in his career by taking the highly sought-after wicket of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Sakib found it especially memorable because he was dismissed in his Asia Cup 2023 debut game.

Tanzim reflected on the occasion and said that, given his inexperience on the international scene, many people had doubted his ability to bowl to a player of Rohit’s caliber. However, the 21-year-old stunned Rohit with a delivery in his opening over, which resulted in a two-ball duck.

“It was my debut match and Rohit Sharma was the opponent and there was Team India,” he said.

“To tell the truth, I never considered that until now. That since I’m new, I won’t be prepared for Rohit Sharma, I was told. However, I knew that I would play to my strengths. Any hitter will be troubled if I can bowl in the proper spots and get the new ball to swing. Tanzim said Cricbuzz, “I tried to use my strengths on the field without thinking about who my opponent was.

India lost by six runs in the end, despite Shubman Gill’s outstanding century. Tanzim, however, showed promise by getting rid of Tilak Varma and finished with figures of 32/2 in 7.5 overs.

After his amazing debut, Tanzim’s confidence skyrocketed, but it was his performances in this year’s T20 World Cup that really solidified his place in the rising star category. Tanzim, who took 11 wickets at an exceptional average of 13.54, emerged as Bangladesh’s top fast bowler after stepping up in Shoriful Islam’s absence.

During the competition, he also recorded his best-ever stats, taking four wickets for only seven runs against Nepal.

When Bangladesh plays India in a three-match Twenty20 International series beginning on Sunday, the bowler will be looking to maintain his impressive run.

As most of the veteran players, including vice captain Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and star batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, are rested, the series will feature India’s youthful guns taking center stage. But Suryakumar Yadav will still be the team’s leader, and Hardik Pandya will also be playing again.
