At the dugout, DC head coach Ponting and Director of Cricket Ganguly were both speechless as Warner’s inaccurate throw gave MI its first victory in IPL 2023.
When Warner’s misdirected throw won a MI thriller, Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting were utterly baffled.
IPL 2023 presented a thriller for the third straight night, with the chasing team consistently putting together a fun victory. Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders stunned the Gujarat Titans on Sunday night with his unbelievable five sixes, the lucky Lucknow Super Kings team stunned the RCB faithful at Chinnaswamy on Monday with their 213-run pursuit, and on Tuesday, Tim David and Cameron Green maintained composure in the final over to give the Mumbai Indians their first victory of the season and continue the worrisome streak of four straight losses for the Delhi Capitals.
Anrich Nortje, a very seasoned bowler for DC, bowled the final over as the drama, like it had the previous two evenings, played out. The South African speedster delivered precise yorkers to David and Green, the two MI batters, with just four runs left to defend in the over.
Green got a single off the first pitch, and David almost averted danger when Mukesh Kumar missed a big catch at mid-wicket. The Australian batter was unable to score again on the third pitch before attempting a single against the low full toss. In the sixth ball, Green narrowly avoided being run out as Nortje mishandled a throw from the defender at mid-wicket.

He hammered the bigger delivery through mid-off when two were needed from one and then sprinted off for a single. Warner, who was positioned far outside the boundary rope, ran to grab it but flung it inaccurately in the direction of wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel, who had to leap high to catch it. The child performed it flawlessly, but David was well inside the crease and made an incredible dive.
Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Delhi Capitals, and Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket, were both left speechless at the dugout as Warner’s errant throw gave MI its first victory in the IPL 2023 while DC’s losing streak continued. After six straight losses in 2013, they have now had their second-worst IPL season with four losses.
