For the Test series against Bangladesh, India names a full-strength squad, including KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant: Whether Pant would be a regular starter or not would be decided by the captain and coach.

Rishabh Pant, who was involved in a horrifying vehicle accident over two years ago, has been called up to the Indian Test team for the forthcoming series against Bangladesh, which kicks off in Chennai on September 19. Pant’s workload will be monitored for the course of the five home Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand due to his busy schedule; a possible break period for him at some time will be addressed. The Indian Express is aware that the selection committee has delegated the task of determining who would keep wickets—captain Rohit Sharma or head coach Gautam Gambhir—to Pant or Dhruv Jurel, who showed promise in the England series.

KL Rahul also returns, along with Pant, as the Ajit Agarkar-led team selected a full-strength lineup for the opening Test. The only new member of the team is left-arm seamer Yash Dayal. Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, KS Bharat, and Mukesh Kumar have been left out of the squad that played in the Test series against England earlier this year; seamer Akash Deep has been retained in that lineup. With Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, the spin department appears to be as powerful as ever.

A four-day camp has been organised at the MA Chidambaram Stadium starting on September 12, with India likely to play as many as ten Test matches over the next four months. Currently, it is unclear if Virat Kohli will report to the camp because there are hints that he may join the team at a later time.

Make a Pant Call

With the exception of Mohammed Shami, all of their players were available and fit, thus there wasn’t much space for unexpected additions or deletions from the team. The five home Test matches are extremely important for Rohit and company, even though India’s priority list is topped by the visit of Australia, which starts in mid-November. They will just need a draw in the five Tests in Australia to secure a spot in their third consecutive World Test Championship final if they are able to win all five of their matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

The home season would undoubtedly be used by India to prepare for their tour of Australia, but workload management is still crucial. The Duleep Trophy encounter in Bengaluru that ended on Sunday was Pant’s first long-format contest since his return to competitive cricket, which dates back to the Mirpur Test in December 2022. During the Sri Lankan tour, he played in just one ODI despite keeping wickets frequently in T20 cricket.
