2024 Paralympics in Paris: Simran places fourth in the 100-meter final: Simran, accompanied by her mentor Abhay Singh, finished fourth with a time of 12.31 seconds.

There were two near misses on a day when India fulfilled their pre-event goal of winning at least 25 medals: Simran in paraathletics and Harvinder Singh and Pooja’s paraarchery team finishing fourth in their respective sports at the Paris Paralympics.

Simran’s performance in the first and semifinal rounds at the Stade de France had generated hopes for a podium finish in the women’s 100-meter T12 event. But Simran came in fourth place after a fierce battle behind the winner.

Simran, accompanied by her mentor Abhay Singh, achieved a time of 12.31 seconds. Omara Durand Elias of Cuba won the gold medal with ease, clocking in at 11.81 seconds.

With times of 12.17 and 12.26 seconds, respectively, Oksana Boturchuk of Ukraine won silver while Katrin Mueller of Germany took home bronze. Simran had qualified for the final earlier on Thursday after hitting a season-best time of 12.17 in her heats on Wednesday and 12.33 in the semifinals.

She may have been a medal contender in the four-woman final with either of those two timings.

She is the World Champion in the 200-meter race, which is her final event in Paris. However, Durand would also begin that competition as the favourite.

After winning the gold in the individual event, Harvinder nearly added another medal to his collection in archery, but he and Pooja lost their final two matches due to missed opportunities. India was defeated by Slovenia in a shootout in the bronze medal match.
