The Delhi Minorities Commission chairman Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, who is facing a case of sedition for his  controversial Facebook post, may soon be axed .  He can be removed from office even before his term is over.  According to information received from sources in the Delhi Secretariat, the Delhi government has made up its mind to remove Zafarul Islam Khan and has  already started the action in this regard.   A decision may be taken to remove him  within a  week.

Dr.Zafrul Islam Khan’s term is till 17 July.  He assumed the post of chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission on 20 July 2017.  In this sense, he can remain the chairman till  19 July 2020.  But 18 July is Saturday and Sunday 19 is Sunday.  In Delhi, work is done only five days  per a week.  In this sense, his term will end on 17 July (Friday).  According to sources, the Delhi government was not in the mood to remove him before the completion of his term.  But after a case of sedition has been filed against him, Delhi government has changed the mind and may remove him.

According to sources, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has sent a file related to Dr. Khan to the Government of Delhi to take action in this whole matter under section 4 of the Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) Act.  Explain that in sub-section 4 of section 4, it is mentioned that under which circumstances the chairman or a member of the commission can be removed.  It clearly states that the chairman or any member can be removed for misuse of the post, against his dignity.  According to sources, it was only after the letter of the Lieutenant Governor that the Delhi Secretariat came into action about the matter.
Sources in the Delhi government say that the government was under pressure from a section of the media demanding the dismissal of Dr.khan  about  Facebook posts and tweets.  It was expected that after clarification from Dr. Khan, the matter would cool down.  But meanwhile, the matter got heated after a sedition case was filed against him at Vasant Vihar police station in Delhi.  After the letter of the Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi government has sought clarification from Zafarul Islam on this whole matter.  The Commission along with Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan has also been asked to clear its stand on this entire matter.
There is also news that the Delhi government has also constituted an internal committee in this entire matter.  This committee will report to the government in this entire matter whether the disputed Facebook post of Zafarul Islam and the sedition case filed against him on the basis of this constitutes the basis for his removal from his post?  Sources reveal that after seeing all these things, the order to remove Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan from the post of Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission may come soon.  According to sources, the Delhi government has made up its mind to just see when the decision is announced.

Delhi government has shown double standard  in this matter.  In the court, the counsel for the Delhi government said that on behalf of the government, notice has been issued to Dr. Zafarul Islam, chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission.  But sources claim that till that time no notice was sent to Dr. Khan from the Delhi government.  Sources said that the Delhi government lawyer had later admitted his mistake at the government level, but now the notice has been sent by the government.

Before taking any action by the Delhi government, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan’s answer is being waited. .  It will be interesting to see what answers Dr. Zafarul Islam gives in his defense?  It will be even more interesting to see what report of the commission of which he is the chairman, which the commission submits to the government about him?  With this, what does the committee set up on behalf of the government report to the government in this whole matter?  But sources reveal that the government has made up its mind to remove the chairman.  So it is believed that now Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan will not be able to complete his term.

Actually, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan came to the target of the Delhi Government at the same time when he questioned the role of Kejriwal Government of Delhi during the Delhi violence.  He had then said that Kejriwal has failed to protect the lives and property of Muslims in Delhi violence.  Then there was a demand from the Delhi government to sack him from his post.  But at that time, the Delhi government probably did not remove them thinking that this could send a wrong message among the Muslims.  The Delhi government had expressed its strong resentment over his statement.  Then Dr. Khan did not even go to the office for some days.      ( With Media Input)
