No Virat, Bumrah, or Rohit for the SL tour; BCCI wants them to recover for the impending home season. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma will not go with the Indian team to Sri Lanka later this month.
The Indian Express is aware that the Indian cricket board wishes for the captain of the squad that won the T20 World Cup and the other two seniors to get extra rest before they return for the entire season in September. In September, Bangladesh will play three T20Is and two Test matches in India, beginning on September 19.
From July 27 to August 7, there will be three ODIs and the same number of T20Is during the Sri Lankan tour. Following the recent World Cup, Sharma and Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is, although Bumrah stated he would still play the format for his country. The selection committee is scheduled to convene the following week in order to choose the team.
“Senior players can relax and prepare for the upcoming cricket season.” The BCCI source told The Indian Express that Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah have been offered time off and would be included in the squad for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September.
Following Bangladesh, the Indian squad will play three Test matches against New Zealand at home from October 16–November 5. After that, from November 8–15, they will go to South Africa to play four Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) before a five-match Test series beginning on November 22 in Australia.
Support staff applications will be called by BCCI.
Following the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, the contracts of fielding coach T Dilip, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and batting coach Vikram Rathour came to an end. In the meantime, the Indian board will soon be accepting applications for the team’s support staff.
Two applicants for the position of head coach, Gautam Gambir and WV Raman, have previously been interviewed by the board’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). An official announcement is still pending.
The main reason for the postponement in announcing Gambhir’s scheduled arrival is that he and the board are now finalizing their salary negotiations for the former left-handed opening batter.
According to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, the new coach will join the Indian squad following the series against Sri Lanka.
It’s been gathered that the board would provide Gambhir complete discretion while selecting his backup team. Given that Gambhir has been an effective opening batsman in a variety of formats, it is unclear if the Indian side would hire a batting coach going forward. He was the IPL 2024 title-winning team’s mentor, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
