Yoga is practiced underwater by Andaman & Nicobar divers, who exhibit tricolor. On Friday, as part of the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations, many divers from the Andaman and Nicobar Command demonstrated underwater yoga in the Emerald Isles, showcasing various asanas and mudras.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command wrote on the microblogging platform X, “To commemorate #IDY24, #ANC organized a spectacular yoga session at #INSUtkrosh. Over a thousand employees and their families came together from all ANC components, adopting a comprehensive strategy for health and wellness. With his attendance, Air Mshl Saju Balakrishnan, #CINCAN, honored the occasion.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command posted a 40-second video on social media that included multiple personnel doing underwater asanas and mudras while dressed in full diving gear.

Interestingly, the Andaman and Nicobar Command, which consists of soldiers from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, is the first tri-service command.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated earlier in the day that people from all origins and cultures come together to commemorate the 10th International Yoga Day, citing the ancient Indian practice as a unifying factor. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to everyone promoting yoga.

“Thanks to the combined efforts of people, communities, and organizations that joined together and performed yoga, the 10th International Yoga Day was held on a grand scale throughout the world. In a post on X, Modi stated, “It is evident that yoga has turned into a unifying force, bringing people together across cultures and backgrounds.”

“It is gladdening to see the youth participating in yoga sessions with such zeal and dedication,” he said.

In the post, Modi said, “I express gratitude to all those working to popularise yoga. These efforts will go a long way in furthering unity and harmony. I am also happy to see an increase in the number of yoga instructors whose expertise and passion is inspiring others to take up yoga.”

In the future, the prime minister hoped that yoga will continue to unite people worldwide. By a resolution passed in December 2014, the UN acknowledged the widespread popularity of yoga and declared June 21 to be the International Day of Yoga. The purpose of the day is to increase global awareness of the various advantages of yoga practice.
