History

Founding: UT was first founded as Tampa Junior College by Frederic H. Spaulding and became a four-year university in 1933. In 1933, the university relocated to its present site in the old Tampa Bay Hotel.
Plant Hall: Originally constructed in 1891 as a posh hotel by railroad tycoon Henry B. Plant, it currently serves as the main campus facility and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
