Since Satwik and Chirag won the title in 2019 and achieved their first Superseries / Super 500 level triumph, the tournament holds special meaning for them.

The top-seeded Indian team, ranked third in the world, defeated its world-ranked 80 opponents on Saturday in a mere 35 minutes.

It’s been easy sailing this week, though, in contrast to their exciting run in 2019. The pairs they have defeated thus far, naturally without losing a game, are ranked 71, 69, 64, and 80 worldwide. They have only ever let up 16 points in a game.

Thailand Open: As they advance to yet another final in Bangkok, Satwik and Chirag look for that comforting sense of victory.

On the men’s doubles circuit, it’s now a musical chairs match, but Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty might potentially be in the running for the world No. 1 ranking once more. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter that much because it changes often enough. As we approach the Paris Olympics, maintaining a strong rhythm is what counts most immediately. the satisfying sense that results from regularly winning games.

Recently, Satwik-Chirag lost that sensation when defending the Thomas Cup title. They’ve had a good season overall, but in Chengdu they were having rhythm problems. And for that reason, making it to the Thailand Open final will be a welcome boost. They defeated Ming Che Lu/Kai Wei Tang of Chinese Taipei 21-11, 21-12 on Saturday in the men’s doubles semifinal, putting up a strong display. In the final on Sunday, the World No. 3 pair will take on the 29th-ranked Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi of China.

Satwik later told BWF, “Overall, it was a good tournament for us. We didn’t hit our 100% at the last tournament.” We couldn’t be more pleased with how we performed. In an attempt to restore that rhythm, we intended to play as many games as we could. We enjoy playing in Thailand every time. It is a unique bond. 2019 saw us win the Thomas Cup and our first medal (Superseries / Super 500+ level).
