The wicketkeeper batsman, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid, and Ajit Agarkar, are the “three honest people” he claims he has complete faith in.
At the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, April 15, 2024, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad, hitter Dinesh Karthik of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru attempts a shot.
During the Mumbai Indians vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL match on April 11, Indian captain Rohit Sharma made fun of Dinesh Karthik by joking, “Shabash DK! This World Cup’s selection process is more competitive than ever. (Well done, DK! His goal is to qualify for the T20 World Cup. He is thinking exclusively upon the World Cup. Karthik’s 23-ball 53-inning that day was what elevated his name to consideration for the 2017 T20 World Cup selection, despite the playful taunting.
The cries for his inclusion were a little louder after he backed it up with a scorching 83 off just 35 balls in RCB’s 287-run chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rohit had recently expressed his “impression” with the 38-year-old’s batting performance, as he accumulated 226 runs at a strike rate of 205.45.
It has been the best feeling for me to represent India at this point in my life. I am eager to do so very much. Nothing in my life is more significant than playing for India in this T20 World Cup.
“I also believe that Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar, and Rohit Sharma—three incredibly trustworthy and steady individuals—will determine which Indian team will perform best at the World Cup. I fully support them and will accept any choice they make. In a media interview, he stated, “All I can say is that I am 100% ready and I’ll do everything I can to be on that flight of the T20 World Cup.”
Karthik last competed for India against Bangladesh in the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, he was forced to make way for Rishabh Pant midway through the competition after scoring 14 runs in four games. In the end, India lost to England in the semifinals.
Karthik will be up against the previously mentioned Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul in this World Cup edition. All of these players appear to be in good shape going into the 20-over extravaganza in the Americas.
