Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Monte Carlo Masters due to a right arm injury Carlos Alcaraz canceled his participation in the Monte-Carlo Masters, one day before his opening match against Felix Auger-Aliassime was set to take place.

When he strapped his right forearm during tournament practice, the world number three sparked questions about potential injuries. Alcaraz posted on social media on Tuesday to announce his late withdrawal.

“I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play,” he stated in a tweet.

Following an unsettling practice on Monday in which the 20-year-old struggled with his forehands, Alcaraz was unable to hold the racket correctly and mostly used the slice on his forehand, indicating problems with his forearm.Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from the Monte Carlo Masters due to a right arm injury

Consequently, on Wednesday, Lorenzo Sonego will compete against Auger-Aliassime in the role of lucky loser. For the second consecutive year, Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters.

The two-time Major winner skipped the competition the previous year because of back discomfort and post-traumatic arthritis in his left hand. This implies that Alcaraz is yet to secure a victory in a Monte Carlo match. He only made one appearance, in 2022, and lost to Sebastian Korda after receiving a bye into the second round.

For the second year in a row, Alcaraz is the defending champion at the Barcelona Open, where he will now try to recover.

In addition, he has won the last two Madrid Masters tournaments, making him the current champion of that competition. The 20-year-old recently defeated Daniil Medvedev in a rematch of the 2023 final to successfully defend his title at Indian Wells, breaking an eight-month title drought.

Despite losing to Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open quarterfinals, he showed no signs of injury throughout the hard-court swing.
