The aviation authority DGCA has given Airbus permission to operate its next-generation H160 helicopter in India.
Across the nation, over 100 Airbus helicopters, including the single-engine H125, are in service with different organisations.
Airbus said in a release on Thursday that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had awarded its H160 helicopter the letter of type acceptance, paving the way for its introduction into the Indian market.
The H160 is a multipurpose helicopter that can be utilised for public services, private and business aviation, emergency medical services, and offshore transportation, among other things.
The DGCA’s approval, according to Sunny Guglani, Head of Airbus Helicopters, Airbus India and South Asia, opens the door for the arrival of the most advanced helicopter in the world in India, initially for a corporate customer before possibly being used for other kinds of missions.
“As we announced in January of this year, Airbus Helicopters is committed to developing a holistic helicopter ecosystem in India, which includes bringing the most advanced helicopter platforms to India, developing localO capabilities, and beginning to produce helicopters in India,” the spokesperson stated.
In addition to the H125, a number of Indian companies are already operating the Airbus H130 and H145.
