Anurag Thakur: Khelo India medal winners can now apply for government jobs: On Wednesday, Anurag Thakur, the minister of sports, announced that the winners of the Khelo India medals would now be qualified to apply for government positions.
The Khelo India Games medal winners in the Youth, University, Para, and Winter Games are now eligible for government jobs thanks to this ground-breaking move. Games and events have also been precisely defined to guarantee inclusivity in a variety of sports. On X, the former Twitter, Thakur stated, “These revised rules mark a significant stride in supporting our athletes in making Bharat a sporting superpower.”
Success in competitions like the Khelo India Youth Games (open to competitors 18 years of age and up), Khelo India Winter Games, Khelo India Para Games, and Khelo India University Games will now make a person eligible for jobs with the government.
Additionally, winners of events held by the School Games Federation of India will continue to be eligible for these jobs.
The establishment of precise criteria for both national and international chess competitions is a noteworthy addition to the updated guidelines, as it guarantees fair opportunities for chess enthusiasts. People who have competed successfully in junior national tournaments or represented their country or a state in international or national competitions will also be hired.
The Khelo India Games were first held in 2018 as a part of the Narendra Modi government’s effort to revitalise sports culture at the local level.
Candidates will be prioritised according to a structured hierarchy that takes into account their sporting achievements.
The list of authorised organisations authorised to provide certificates proving athletes’ eligibility for recruitment has been updated in an effort to expedite the process by which athletes can obtain benefits.
The people who will be able to issue these certificates will now include secretaries of state associations for national competitions, secretaries of national sports federations for international events, and deans or sports officers of universities for inter-university competitions.
