Following the development of his own version of ChatGPT, Grok, Elon Musk now appears poised to challenge the widely used Gmail service, which is owned by Google. As befits the moniker of his microblogging site X, the X chief appears to be working on developing his own version of Gmail, dubbed Xmail (formerly Twitter).
In an exchange on the X platform, Musk disclosed that a product called Xmail is on the way, according to a Dailymail report. It’s unclear when it will be available and there are no more details available. It is anticipated that the mail will be incorporated into the X app, though.
The development emerged from a post by X engineer Nate, who inquired, “When we making Xmail/” “It’s coming,” was Musk’s characteristically casual response to this.
Musk is renowned for making grandiose promises, but since acquiring X, he has also changed the company significantly. Taking on Gmail would be an enormous undertaking, even if Xmail succeeds. By 2024, Gmail is expected to have over 1.8 billion users worldwide.
Following the exchange’s discovery, Xmail saw over 15,000 posts trend on X. A number of users responded to the news by posting memes and voicing their strong views about Musk’s latest venture. These are some responses from the online community.
This appears to be a step closer to Musk’s ambitious goal of turning X into a “everything app.” Additionally, it’s possible that xAI, the business the Tesla CEO founded in 2023, will create the new version of Xmail. Grok, a chatbot that has been integrated into the X platform, was introduced by the same company.
