The 19-year-old BTech second-year student, who is preparing for JEE Main 2024, says his parents have always been an inspiration. His father works for the Income Tax Department, while his mother is a doctor who also teaches at a government college in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.JEE Main 2024: Sasank Marthand is a student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, where he is pursuing a BTech in Civil Engineering. Currently, he is in his second year.

Due of my strong mathematical skills, I opted for the science stream in Class 9. I began getting ready for the Joint Entrance Exam in Class 11. Since I’ve always been interested in problem-solving techniques, I decided to become an engineer. I was able to relate to it. Furthermore, successful CEOs like Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai were engineers. Their motivation is immense.I was accepted to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras for a BTech programme in civil engineering after acing JEE Advanced 2022. At the best NITs, I was more interested in civil engineering than in data science, electronics, or communications engineering, therefore I went with this degree instead. I’m happy that my drive and diligence paid off because I’m now enrolled at India’s top engineering college.

In my hometown of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, I had gone to a tutoring session, but I handled the most of the preparation on my own.

Life at IIT Madras: From homesickness to finding hidden talents in me

It was the first time I was living apart from my family as I finished my education in my hometown. I was concerned about adjusting to a new environment. During my first semester, I used to get sick a lot and struggled to go without home-cooked meals. I began acclimating to this place gradually because the institute offers a variety of cuisine options. But friends and seniors are the ones that really helped me feel like IIT Madras is a second home. They were all cooperative with me, despite my initial reluctance to interact with others. The demanding academic programme plus the abundance of extracurricular and co-curricular activities beyond my wildest dreams made the first few days feel like I was back in my JEE days. I’ve joined a number of teams and have found my hidden interests and talents now that I’ve settled in.

built relationships via E-Cell
As a member of IIT Madras’ Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell), I have forged numerous professional relationships. It also gave me more self-assurance in my skills, and I intend to keep working with the team in the future.
