For users using ad-blockers, YouTube is now slowing down its videos. YouTube is on a war against ad blockers. The website of the video platform has been purposefully slowing down for users of ad blockers.
According to reports, more users are now utilizing the platform’s slowing down technique, which was implemented last year. Many customers are having trouble loading pages quickly; to avoid this, they must either pay for the premium plan or disable their ad blockers.
The reason behind YouTube’s anti-ad blocking approach is the company’s decreasing revenue. The platform is mostly funded by advertisements, therefore when users block ads, it has a big financial impact.
YouTube considers blocking ads to be against their terms of service. Additionally, the platform offers a premium service that is paid for and brings in a sizable income for customers who choose to view the material without advertisements.
In what ways does YouTube prevent users from using ad blockers?
Even with the option to subscribe to a paid version of YouTube that eliminates annoying commercials, many users are hesitant to make the switch and still using third-party ad blockers. As a result, YouTube has put in place two tactics to deter ad-blocking software:
First, there’s a pop-up that says, “Ad blockers violate YouTube’s Terms of Service.” After that, users are told to turn off their ad blocker before continuing to watch any movies.
But for a lot of people, this warning hasn’t worked, so YouTube has come up with another tactic. When an ad blocker is found, this strategy purposefully slows down the entire website, classifying the user experience as “suboptimal viewing.”
This abrupt slowness and unresponsiveness on YouTube has also been noted by a number of Reddit users, according to a 9to5Google article. They said that the platform suddenly became sluggish and unresponsive.
But it didn’t take long to figure out that turning off any active ad blockers instantly brought the website back to normal.
