Today, PM Modi will inaugurate Atal Setu, the longest sea bridge in India, in Mumbai. Today, the longest sea bridge in the nation, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), will be officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri—Nhava Sheva Atal Setu—is a 21.8-kilometer sea bridge that cost more than Rs 17,840 crore to build.

Today, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Maharashtra, where he will launch projects valued at more over Rs 30,500 crore. The Prime Minister will also introduce the Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan in the state and lay the cornerstone for an underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway’s Orange Gate during the visit.

The goal of the prime minister’s vision is to increase citizens’ “ease of mobility” by bolstering urban transportation infrastructure and integration.

Built in accordance with this concept is the Mumbai Transharbour link (MTHL), currently known as ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu,’ according to an official statement.

“The Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs 12,700 crore in the public program in Navi Mumbai,” said the statement.

PM Modi placed the bridge’s foundation stone in December 2016.

ALL ABOUT THE HARBOUR LINK IN MUMBAI

  • The entire cost of building the Atal Setu is more than Rs 17,840 crore.
  • With a six-lane bridge spanning over 16.5 km over the water and 5.5 km on land, it is roughly 21.8 km long.
  • By improving access to Navi Mumbai International Airport as well as Mumbai International Airport, the bridge will shorten the time it takes to get from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India. According to the announcement, it will also enhance connectivity between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Mumbai Port.
  • The maximum speed restriction for four-wheelers on the MTHL would be 100 km/h, according to a statement from Mumbai Police. Tractors, motorbikes, and autorickshaws won’t be permitted on the sea bridge.The top speed restriction for cars, taxis, light trucks, minibuses, and two-axle buses will be one hundred kilometers per hour.
  • However, the speed will be restricted to 40 kilometers per hour on the ascent and descent of the bridge.
  • The one-way toll for a passenger automobile on the MTHL is Rs 250. There will be different fees for repeat trips, daily trips, and frequent travel.
