India vs. Bangladesh: Mahmud makes three wickets as Rohit, Gill, and Kohli go down early on Day 1 of the Chennai Test
Day 1 of the Chennai Test between India and Bangladesh sees Mahmud get three wickets as Rohit, Gill, and Kohli all out early.
While Rohit’s downfall came from a soft-handed delivery that sailed away from a tight off stump line, Kohli’s brief stay was ended by a hard-handed approach to a delivery outside off.
India suffered an early punch in the first Test on Thursday in Chennai when Bangladesh took three wickets in the opening session.
Hasan Mahmud, a 24-year-old phenom with pace, broke Indian captain Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6) in the first session.
At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto chose to bowl first after winning the toss. This was on a Chepauk wicket where the seamers had an advantage because to the unusual grass cover.
As early as the sixth over, it was a wise decision. A medium-length delivery that skirted the off stump gave Rohit Sharma a slight seam and caused him to nick, but Shanto got him behind at second slip.

Not too long after, after seven deliveries, Shubman Gill attempted to flip a full delivery down the leg side, only to be pouched by Litton Das.
Even Virat Kohli could not hold out in the middle for too long. While Rohit was undone by playing a length ball with gentle hands, his predecessor was brought down by firm hands and chasing another delivery outside the off stump.Yashasvi Jaiswal, who led India in runs scored during the five-match Test series against England earlier this year, held the other end of the bat as wickets continued to fall. Later on, Rishabh Pant joined him, making his first appearance for the Indian Test team since December 2022.
