The Post and Pre Matric Scholarship programme for Students with Disabilities is a centrally sponsored programme for students with disabilities studying in India; the parents’ or guardians’ annual income cannot exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh.

The Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SCs and others received a total of Rs 207.93 crore in funding, while the Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme for SC students received Rs 4392.50 crore. These figures were disclosed today by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The government released data showing that 46.41 lakh recipients of the post-matric scholarships scheme and 11.34 lakh candidates overall benefited from the pre-matric scholarships scheme.

Under the Pre-Matric Scholarships programme, the amount of money allotted has dropped over the last three years: it was Rs 599.71 crore in 2020–21, Rs 570.18 crore in 2021–22, and Rs 207.93 crore in 2022–23.

The Post-Matric Scholarships programme, on the other hand, did not experience this, despite declining from Rs 4008.60 crore in 2020–21 to Rs 1930.38 crore in 2021–22 before rising to Rs 4392.50 crore in 2022–23.

Using the Aaadhar Based Payment System, the central portion of scholarships awarded under the Pre- and Post-Matric scholarship programmes are directly deposited into the beneficiary’s account (APBS).
