Indian union  Muslim  Youth  League has demanded to  declare Kerala flood ravage as a “ National Calamity and disaster”, In a letter to PM Narendra Modi, its National President Sabir S Ghaffar  lamented about  inadequate flood news  coverage by national media and requested to  increase funds to augment relief work

He underlines  that  the recent horrific floods in the state of Kerala and the resultant loss of lives touching next to 350  at the time of writing this letter, crores of properties damaged, with around   2lakhs displaced, and thousands of homed damaged. News are pouring in on social media including status updates on Facebook, twitter and WhatsApp groups of thousands stranded in various parts of the state a

Kerala is an integral part of our Country, whose people are the most patriotic and the state has been a shining example of complete literacy, social awareness, and communal harmony. Today the state of Kerala needs our prayers, support and cooperation,  Sabir S Ghaffar empathized.

The extent of the flood ravage is so severe that only a declaration of “National Calamity and disaster” could be fair to describe the current grim situation in the state. It needs a much larger fund allocation including rescue operations, disaster management teams, army personnel, relief items, clothes and much more. Also the national media coverage of the floods have not been fair to its magnanimity and the extent of its fury and the ravage it has unleashed on the state, he further added.

At the end of letter, IUMYL pleads PMO   to declare the flood fury on the state of  Kerala as a National calamity and disaster, and a resultant larger fund allocation be made  to the State to carry out rescue operations and reconstruction. Also a strong message From PMO may be sent to the national media to cover the flood ravage in Kerala adequately so that the news of the grim situation in the state reaches to the people in North India, as lakhs of migrant labours live and  work in Kerala and their relatives and friends back home are worried about their safety.
