Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have scored 800 goals in the history of football.
Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, played in their first match since winning the World Cup in
December, defeating Panamanian 2-0 in a friendly on Thursday. The Monumental Stadium in
Buenos Aires was festive as Thiago Almada and Lionel Messi scored goals. Manager Lionel
Scaloni started the same lineup that faced France in the World Cup final. In the first half of
the game, Argentina was unable to get past the Panamanian defence, but Almada tied the
score with his first goal for his country thanks to a Messi free-kick rebound.
Then, with a free kick that found the top-right corner of the goal, the Argentine captain finally
scored goal number 800 in his career. His goal in the 89th minute extended Argentina’s
advantage and secured the team’s triumph in front of an enthusiastic 80,000 spectators at
“El Monumental.” After Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, who has 830 goals in his career,
Messi became the second player to score 800 goals in football.
The Argentina Football Association also hosted a post-game ceremony to commemorate the
nation’s FIFA World Cup victory—the third for Argentina and their first in 36 years.
“I have always desired to share this occasion with you in my native Argentina, lifting the
World Cup, the greatest thing ever, “Messi stated at a ceremony following the game.
“We have been waiting a very long time to win it again, so let’s keep doing what we’re doing
and enjoy it. Enjoy the third star, please.”
Scaloni continued while crying: “I will always be grateful to these players. They own football,
and we couldn’t have won the World Cup without them.
“Everyone who is wearing this shirt gives their all, yet occasionally the results are
unsuccessful. But this time, we have it, and it’s amazing “declared the coach prior to a
victory lap by the players and their families that was reminiscent of the one his team took at
Lusail Stadium 95 days prior.
