HCL Technologies Ltd, also known as HCLTech or originally Hindustan Computers Limited, is a Noida-based global provider of information technology (IT) services and consultancy. When HCL entered the software services industry in 1991, it became an independent company. With around 210,966 people, the company has offices in 52 different countries.
The Forbes Global 2000 list includes HCLTech.
With a market capitalization of 279,209 crore as of March 2022, it is one of India’s top 20 largest publicly traded firms.
A firm that would produce personal computers was founded in 1976 by a group of eight engineers, all of whom had previously worked for Delhi Cloth & General Mills, under the direction of Shiv Nadar. To raise money for their original products, Nadar and his team—which also comprised Arjun Malhotra, Ajai Chowdhry, D.S. Puri, Yogesh Vaidya, and Subhash Arora—started selling teledigital calculators. The company was first listed as Microcomp Ltd. Hindustan Computers Limited became the new name of the business on August 11, 1976. (HCL).
HCL Enterprise, a business that helped shape and expand India’s IT and computer industries, had an R&D division at its foundation before becoming HCL Technologies. In 1978, HCL Enterprise created an in-house microcomputer, and in 1983, it created a networking operating system and a client-server architecture. HCL Technologies, a separate division that offers software services, was split off on November 12th, 1991.
A business called HCL Overseas Limited was created on November 12th, 1991 to offer technology development services. On February 10, 1992, it got the certificate allowing the start of business, at which point it started operating. The business name was changed to HCL Consulting Limited two years later, in July 1994. For “a better reflection of its activity,” the business changed its name to “HCL Technologies Ltd” on October 6, 1999.
On November 10, 1999, the business went public with the issue of 142 crore (14.2 million) shares at a price of 4 each. For KLA – Tencor Corporation, the business created an offshore development centre in Chennai, India, in the year 2000.
It bought Gulf Computers Inc. in 2002.
The HCL company debuted HCL Healthcare in February 2014. The fourth and most recent project of HCL Corporation is HCL TalentCare.
Actian, a US-based company, was purchased by HCL and Sumeru Equity Partners in July 2018 for $330 million.
2019 saw the purchase of a small number of IBM products by HCL Technologies. For the following products: AppScan, BigFix, Commerce, Connections, Digital Experience (Portal and Content Management), Notes Domino, and Unica, HCL assumed complete responsibility for research and development, sales, marketing, delivery, and support.
HCL Technologies changed their name to HCLTech in 2022.
