A national seminar is organized by Movement Against UAPA and Other Repressive Laws (MURL) tomorrow (18.09.2021) at Chennai Reporters Guild, Chepauk between 4 pm and 6.30 pm on the topic “REPRESSIVE LAWS UNDER BJP REGIME”.

All repressive laws are against the spirit of Indian constitution and they are black spots on our democratic society and polity. Though laws like sedition date back to British colonial period and successive governments after independence added much more to the list of draconian laws, the nation has witnessed their most rampant and selective misuse during past seven years under BJP rule. These laws are being used as tools by the government to suppress all types of dissent against its fallible policies and actions.

Movement Against UAPA and Other Repressive Laws (MURL) is a joint platform of activists and groups for mobilizing public opinion against these laws. MURL aims to extend support to the innocent victims of these draconian laws due to political vendetta.

We are expecting prominent activists, scholars and lawyers to address the seminar on various repressive laws such as UAPA, AFSPA, NSA, Sedition Law etc., under present BJP government at the centre. Among them, many speakers, including primarily Prof. A. Marx, Adv. Bavani Ba. Mohan, Ilanthamizhagam Senthil and Adv. A. Mohamed Yusuff from Tamilnadu, Ashish Gupta from Delhi, E M Abdur Rahiman and Adv. K.P. Mohamad Shareef from Kerala, Adv. S. Balan from Karnataka, Pallabi Ghosh from Assam, Gurmeet Singh from Punjab, Sandeep Nimesh from Uttar Pradesh, Nigtomjogam Rajesh from Manipur, according to Sadique Qureishi,Coordinator, MURL
