Gujarat Congress is looking super saffron party than BJP as there is nothing left in the party for Muslims now.

As political parties in the state gear up for the 2022 state assembly elections, the Congress party may appoint a Brahmin, Baniya, Rajput or Other Backward Class (OBC) leader as the next president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). There is not a singal word from Congress about Muslim community.

Recently there was a meeting where Prominent names placed at the gathering included Jagdish Thakore and Vav MLA Geniben Thakor. interestingly, there was no Muslim leader in the meeting. There are three Muslim MLAs of Congress. Nobody was invited according to Sources.

According to sources, several meetings of various communities have been held over the past few days.

After the local civic body polls defeat, the road will not be easy for the party, which is in fear of being toppled as the opposition in the state. Without a state incharge, after the demise of incumbent Rajiv Satav, as well as a new president, the party is struggling with its state leadership.

Party leaders in the state are now conducting ‘secret’ community-wise meetings to determine the way forward. Notably, the Congress party has been known as the party of Adivasis (tribals), Dalits and Muslims in the state.

Brahmin leaders of the party recently held a meeting at the residence of former leader of opposition Naresh Rawal, to decide on the next state president of the party.

According to sources, such meetings were held by Rajput and Darbar leaders in the Congress party, with an intention “to claim their share of the cake.”

However, GPCC chief spokesperson Manish Doshi denied that the party was going to make top appointments in this manner.

“The latest meeting did not only have Brahmin leaders. The meeting was held to decide on the election and campaign strategy. Most of the attendees were the senior leaders of the party, who have worked on strengthening the organization,” he asserted.

Sources say that many leaders are trying to get backing for their respective communities. A meeting of OBC leaders was also held a few weeks ago to support former union minister Bharatsinh Solanki.

Congress spokesperson Jayrajsinh Parmar told First India that “the party was united and there are no factions.” “The party is made up of people and not communities. The leader is survived by the critics and killed by followers. The Rajputs were rulers and never had any community favouritism; they were kings of the entire state. The party is united and the ultimate decision will be taken democratically,” he said.

A senior leader of the party asserted that “it must go beyond community politics. The political narrative should be changed. All parties have different professional groups. We need leaders and people at par with world politics right now.”
